Tarangire has the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem – a paradise for predators and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed.
Tarangire offers incredible scenery, including the dramatic baobab trees that are so famous in this Park, Herds of up to 300 elephants can be seen all at once by the dry river bed for underground streams, they are easily encountered during wet or dry seasons while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking Tarangire river. The park hosts year-round 550 bird varieties, the most breeding species in one habitat anywhere in the world, a heaven for ardent bird lovers.
